Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norfolk, Nebraska is located northwest of Omaha know for their manufacturing, farming (both livestock and grain), education, retailing, and wholesaling. Well-knows as the home of Johnny Carson. Our location produces powdered and dehydrated meat and poultry products, for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals. Responsibilities

This position is responsible for utilizing all safety standards and procedures. Demonstrates, creates and maintains a safe work environment. Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structure, pipe & electrical systems in commercial industrial establishments by performing the following functions.

* Demonstrate safety as a top priority; follow all safety procedures and avoid all accidents; actively determine ways to improve safety * Maintain plant facilities and equipment to minimize downtime for production as well as keeping equipment operating safely. * Troubleshoot plant equipment, which may include electrical as well as mechanical troubleshooting, and repair as needed. * Repair leaks in plant piping as they occur. * Complete required paperwork as needed, e.g. work orders, inventory, etc. * Work with outside contractors as needed to insure company policies are followed and work is done as required. * Hours may be required outside of normal schedule as well as on call times. * Keep entry ways clear of snow and ice during winter months. * Complete Boiler and Refrigeration Reports as required. * Maintain salt and chemical levels in appropriate tanks. * Minimize product loss. * Maintain and operate all equipment in a safe manner to avoid injury to self or others. * Keep work area neat, clean and ensure a sanitary work environment. * Report all work-related injuries or unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately. * Use appropriate safety equipment when required (ear plugs, rubber boots, face shields, aprons, bump caps, etc.) Use lockout/tagout procedures when required. * Maintain good personal hygiene. * Follow instructions from supervisor and cooperate with coworkers and other departments: be willing to fill in where needed. * Maintain a positive attitude. * Other duties as assigned.


Language Skills: Ability to speak, read, and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumferences and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form, problem solving capabilities. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Computer Skills: Must have strong computer skills with Microsoft Office, Google, and other Accounting/ Safety / Lean programs.

Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is routinely required to walk. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment may be loud and require hearing protection. Special care must be taken when working with or around microbes and chemicals. Safety material are provided and Personal Protective Equipment should be worn where applicable (lab and production floor). Must be able to work in 80 to 100 degree temperatures.
