Job Description Job Description Permanent Primary Care Physician (MD/DO) Hospital Setting | Redfield, South Dakota Compensation: $300,000–$350,000 annually additional compensation for extra ER coverage Employment Type: Full-time, permanent Position Summary Blue United Sourcing is seeking a Primary Care Physician to join a locally governed, mission-driven Critical Access Hospital serving Redfield and the surrounding rural communities of northeastern South Dakota. This is a rare opportunity to practice full-spectrum, relationship-based medicine—supported by experienced nursing teams, strong APP support, and approachable leadership where physician voices matter and decisions remain local. Why This Role Practice in a modernized facility with strong ancillary services and continued investment in clinical systems Local leadership that is accessible and values physician input and autonomy Focus on quality, continuity, and community impact—not corporate volume pressure Role designed for long-term stability, not short-term coverage Collaborative environment working closely with another physician, experienced nursing teams, and APPs Predictable schedule with a 4-day workweek option, low-volume call, and additional pay for extra ER coverage Responsibilities Provide comprehensive primary care in the outpatient clinic (preventive care, chronic disease management, acute visits) Provide ER/ED coverage and backup, confidently managing urgent/emergent cases in a rural setting Perform inpatient rounding and coordinate care transitions across clinic, hospital, and community settings Collaborate with APPs (NPs/PAs), nursing, and ancillary staff to ensure safe, efficient patient care Participate in a shared call rotation that supports predictable scheduling and team stability Support continuity of care through nursing home rounds for established patients Participate in limited administrative/medical staff duties including meetings, quality initiatives, and periodic medical director rotation Build strong relationships with patients, colleagues, and the community to support long-term practice stability Requirements Qualifications MD or DO required (no fellowship required) Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine or a related primary care specialty ED/ER experience or demonstrated comfort required Prior ED practice, residency rotations, or equivalent hands-on exposure acceptable Open to early-career physicians/new graduates with strong ER comfort and clinical confidence Background as EMT, CNA, or similar clinical role prior to medical training is a plus Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and ability to work independently when needed Collaborative, low-ego team player with excellent communication skills Comfort practicing in a rural, community-focused environment Meditech or Epic experience preferred (training provided) Benefits Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance Employer-paid coverage for the physician; family coverage available South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS) pension plan with employer contribution Paid Time Off (PTO), extended sick leave, and paid holidays Malpractice insurance with tail coverage Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for physician and family support Employee healthcare discounts at Community Memorial Hospital & Redfield Clinic Relocation assistance and transition support available Why Redfield, South Dakota Redfield is a welcoming rural community with a safe, family-friendly lifestyle, strong schools, and a low cost of living.
