Job Description:
The Madison County Sheriff's Department is presently taking
applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of
Deputy Sheriff (Road Patrol /Corrections Deputy) which currently
two open positions exist. Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification is
not required, however to be completed within the first year of
employment. Job Description A Deputy with the Madison County
Sheriff's Department will perform all related duties in either the
patrol or the jail division including, but not limited to,
patrolling Madison County's rural and municipal areas to prevent
and discover the commission of crimes; monitor inmates and ensure
facility safety; enforce State laws; enforce traffic regulations;
conduct investigations on criminal offenses and traffic accidents
to gather evidence, obtain witnesses and make arrests; serve
subpoenas, writs, executions and other civil documents; provide
documentation and testimony to courts; perform prisoner transports
and extraditions, and provide courtroom and courthouse security.
Minimum Required Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent.
Ability to meet, communicate, and work with general public
effectively and to react calmly, quickly, and accurately in
emergency situations essential. Must successfully pass literacy,
physical, background, and polygraph exams, as well as a Basic
Training Academy as provided or approved by Nebraska Law
Enforcement Training Center. Minimum age 21 years. Hiring Process
Following a review of all applications, qualified candidates will
be invited to participate in the hiring process. Written and
physical tests will be utilized to evaluate the qualifications and
fitness levels of those selected. Applicants must achieve a passing
score on all examination components, complete background paperwork,
and have a successful Merit Commission interview in order to be
placed on the eligible for hire list (i.e. eligibility list). The
eligibility list is valid for up to six (6) months. Those on the

Salary and Benefits Starting probationary salary $48,464.00 per
year with graduated increases for five years. Posted salary
negotiable based on certification, experience, and qualifications.
