This is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are
interested in building systems, mechanical work, and practical
problem solving. No prior professional experience is required –
comprehensive training is provided to support success in this
hands-on role. Under the general supervision of the Manager of
Building Engineering, the Building Systems Technician ensures the
mechanical systems within the zoo’s facilities are operating
efficiently. You will perform preventive maintenance and
troubleshoot mechanical issues in HVAC systems, electrical
controls, plumbing, elevators, life safety systems, and emergency
power supplies. This role offers a unique chance to apply your

position will work on a wide variety of mechanical systems while
troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing the critical systems

Aquarium! Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
: Maintain & Troubleshoot Mechanical Systems – Work on HVAC,
electrical, plumbing, and related systems, ensuring smooth
operations and immediate response to any issues. Hands-on Repairs –
Perform minor repairs on HVAC systems, elevators, life safety
systems, and emergency power systems. Daily Inspections &
Preventive Maintenance – Conduct daily checks on equipment, perform
scheduled maintenance, and troubleshoot problems before they cause
downtime. Collaborate with Senior Engineers – Work closely with
senior engineers to gain experience and handle more complex repairs
and projects. Utilize Technology – Use CMMS software to track
maintenance tasks, ensuring timely repairs and optimized system
performance. Work with External Contractors – Escort and support
outside contractors, ensuring they meet safety standards and system
specifications. Emergency Response – Be the first to respond during
urgent maintenance situations, keeping the building systems running
without interruption. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities: Mechanical Expertise – Basic to intermediate knowledge
of mechanical systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing,
and the ability to troubleshoot and repair them. Hands-On Problem
Solving – Comfort with diagnosing mechanical issues and finding
effective solutions quickly and efficiently. Tech-Savvy –
Familiarity or willingness to learn digital systems like CMMS and
building management systems (BMS) for work order management and
system tracking. Strong Work Ethic – Ability to work independently
and as part of a team to solve complex technical challenges.
Physical & Technical Skills – Ability to lift and move heavy
equipment (up to 50 pounds) and perform physically demanding tasks,
including bending, stooping, and climbing. Flexible Availability –
Ability to work weekends, overtime, and respond to emergency
situations. Valid Driver’s License – Required to operate zoo
