Position Summary: The CNC Router Technician is responsible for the setup, programming, operation, and maintenance of CNC routers to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications. This position requires an experienced operator with strong programming skills, troubleshooting ability, and a solid understanding of machining techniques especially when working with composite materials such as fiberglass and plastics. Key Responsibilities: Set up, program, and operate CNC router machines to produce parts that meet quality and dimensional specifications. This includes installing and changing tools, securing workpieces with clamps or vacuums, and verifying alignment. Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software and machine control interfaces. Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and work orders to determine tooling, cutting paths, and feed speeds. Select and install appropriate tooling, cutters, and fixtures for each job. Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools to verify conformance to specifications. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to machine performance, tooling, program issues, or material inconsistencies; perform root-cause analysis and implement solutions to reduce downtime and ensure consistent production. Maintain equipment through routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs; document maintenance logs and report major issues to supervision for timely resolution. Work with engineering and production teams to improve machining processes, reduce setup/changeover times, recommend tooling improvements, and support prototyping or custom fabrication projects. Adhere to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and dust extraction systems, while maintaining an organized and efficient workstation. Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC routers in a production or custom manufacturing environment. Experience with CNC programming (G-code editing, toolpath creation, or CAM software). Strong understanding of 5-axis machining, machining parameters, tool selection, feeds/speeds, and chip load for various materials. Proven troubleshooting skills for mechanical, control, and process-related issues. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. Familiarity with precision measurement tools (calipers, gauges). Strong attention to detail, safety, and product quality. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks in a shop environment with potential exposure to noise and machinery. Proficiency in English language (read, write, speak, and communicate in business setting). Preferred Qualifications: Experience machining fiberglass, plastics, or other composite materials. Knowledge of vacuum hold-down systems and dust extraction equipment. Understanding of tool wear patterns and material-specific cutting characteristics.
