Job Description:

Waste Connections, a leader in integrated waste services, is seeking a dedicated Assistant Controller to join our finance team. We specialize in providing comprehensive waste management services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. As an Assistant Controller at Waste Connections, you will play a crucial role in financial reporting, budget management, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to sustainable waste practices and improve operational efficiencies within the finance department. Assist the Controller in preparing accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with accounting principles and company policies. Manage daily accounting operations, including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing regular variance analysis to senior management. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets. Participate in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely completion and analysis of all financial data. Liaise with external auditors during annual audits and provide needed information for audit completions. Implement and monitor compliance with new accounting standards. Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. CMA (Certified Management Accountant) or similar relevant credentials are advantageous.
